Implant-Supported Dentures Spokane Valley, WA

Dentist wearing gloves holding a detailed denture model to explain its structure and use during a patient consultation. For many people who wear traditional dentures, everyday moments come with worry. Will the denture slip while speaking? Will a favorite meal be too difficult to chew? At Coulter Family Dentistry, our dentists understand these concerns, and we are proud to offer implant-supported dentures as a stable, confident alternative. Often called snap-in dentures, this solution combines the full-arch coverage of a denture with the secure foundation of dental implants, helping patients in Spokane Valley enjoy a more natural, comfortable smile.

What Are Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are full or partial dentures that attach to dental implants placed in the jawbone. Rather than resting on the gums and relying on suction or adhesive, the denture connects to small titanium posts that act like artificial tooth roots. Because the implants fuse with the surrounding bone, they provide an anchor that keeps the denture firmly in place while you talk, laugh, and eat.

There are two common approaches to implant dentures, and our dental team will help you determine which is the best fit for your needs:
•  Removable Snap-In Dentures - These dentures click securely onto implant attachments and can be removed at home for daily cleaning. They offer a major improvement in stability over traditional dentures while still allowing easy maintenance.
•  Fixed Implant Dentures - These are attached to the implants and are only removed by your dentist. They feel and function much like natural teeth and never need to be taken out at night.

In many cases, a full arch of replacement teeth can be supported by just a few strategically placed implants, depending on bone density and personal goals.

Why Choose Snap-In Dentures Over Traditional Dentures?

Traditional dentures have limitations. Over time, the jawbone beneath missing teeth shrinks because it no longer receives stimulation from tooth roots. As the bone changes shape, dentures can become loose and uncomfortable.

Implant dentures address these challenges in several meaningful ways:
•  Greater Stability - Implants hold the denture securely, reducing slipping, clicking, and shifting during meals and conversation.
•  Improved Chewing Ability - A stronger bite allows you to enjoy a wider variety of healthy foods, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins.
•  Bone Preservation - Because implants integrate with the jawbone, they help stimulate the bone and slow the bone loss that often follows tooth loss.
•  Enhanced Comfort - Many upper implant dentures can be designed with less coverage on the roof of the mouth, which can improve taste and reduce gagging.
•  No Messy Adhesives - The implant attachments do the work, so there is no need for daily denture pastes or creams.

For many patients, the biggest difference is confidence.

Advanced Technology for Precise Planning

Successful implant dentures begin with careful planning. At Coulter Family Dentistry, we use proven dental technology to evaluate your oral health and design your treatment with precision. Our office is equipped with Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), which provides detailed three-dimensional images of the jaw, nerves, and sinuses while focusing only on the area being evaluated to limit radiation exposure. This 3-D imaging allows our dentists to assess bone volume and identify the ideal locations for each implant.

We also use digital x-rays, which emit significantly less radiation than traditional film x-rays, and intraoral cameras that capture clear images of the mouth and bite. These tools help you understand your options and make informed decisions.

The Implant Denture Process

Every smile is different, and your treatment plan will be customized to your needs.

In general, the process for implant-supported dentures includes the following steps:
•  Comprehensive Consultation - Our dental team reviews your medical history, examines your mouth, and takes digital and 3-D images to determine whether implant dentures are right for you.
•  Implant Placement - Implants are placed in the jawbone during an in-office procedure. If needed, bone augmentation may be performed at the same appointment to create a stronger foundation.
•  Healing Phase - Over approximately three to four months, the implants fuse with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. A temporary denture can often be worn during this time.
•  Attachment and Final Denture - Once healing is complete, abutments or attachments are connected to the implants, and your custom denture is fitted, adjusted, and secured.

Throughout each phase, our dentists provide personalized guidance and post-operative care so you know what to expect and feel supported from start to finish.

Comfortable Care With Sedation Options

We know dental surgery can feel intimidating. Implant placement typically requires only local anesthetic, but varying levels of sedation are available for patients who would like additional relaxation. Our team takes pride in creating a relaxed, caring environment.

Are You a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures may be a great option if you:
•  Are missing most or all of the teeth in one or both arches
•  Currently wear dentures that feel loose or uncomfortable
•  Have teeth that are failing and need to be replaced
•  Want a more secure alternative to traditional dentures
•  Are in good general health and able to undergo a minor oral surgical procedure

Even with bone loss, bone grafting can often rebuild the foundation needed for implants. If implants are not the right fit, our dentists can customize a care plan to help you reach your goals in other ways.

Caring for Your Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant dentures are designed to last many years with proper care. Brush your denture and gums daily, clean carefully around the implant attachments, and keep up with regular checkups so our dentists can monitor your implants and gum health. Snap-in attachments may need periodic replacement to maintain a secure fit.

At Coulter Family Dentistry, we believe in being up-front with our patients and recommending only the treatment that makes sense for their health and goals. Our dentists take time to educate each patient so you feel comfortable with every decision. We guide your implant care from placement to final restoration.
